Ok, let me first say Chanda is probably my favorite author I love love love all of her books but I was sadly not very impressed with Underlord It broke my heart to see Zeke trampled over by Allyn and at first I liked Allyn because I didn t see him as a big part in Kira s love life but because he was, I was extremely disappointed I think the love triangle was fun at first but I was always on Zeke s side Oh how I wish the ending was different also I just feel like it wasn t a good wrap to the Ok, let me first say Chanda is probably my favorite author I love love love all of her books but I was sadly not very impressed with Underlord It broke my heart to see Zeke trampled over by Allyn and at first I liked Allyn because I didn t see him as a big part in Kira s love life but because he was, I was extremely disappointed I think the love triangle was fun at first but I was always on Zeke s side Oh how I wish the ending was different also I just feel like it wasn t a good wrap to the story and left me with a sick feeling Loved Underland but I wish there was a third coming out to fix the problems for me in the second book Also there were many errors in the book that should ve been fixed Ughhhh I wish I could love this book but now I m left feeling empty from kinda how shallow Kira was to everyone I didn t like how her character developed That said I still love Chanda but I guess my expectations are high because of her other books I LOVED the first book The world building was enchanting and the characters really grew on you I feel like it s been forever of a wait for this one and to be honest I was kind of disappointed I liked Allyn but I didn t get the triangle thing It felt unnatural and forced and shallow I missed Zeke and all his undead charm from the first one here too Overall this book was pretty good fun I stayed up until 2 am to finish it be I didn t want to put it down until the end What the heck It wa I LOVED the first book The world building was enchanting and the characters really grew on you I feel like it s been forever of a wait for this one and to be honest I was kind of disappointed I liked Allyn but I didn t get the triangle thing It felt unnatural and forced and shallow I missed Zeke and all his undead charm from the first one here too Overall this book was pretty good fun I stayed up until 2 am to finish it be I didn t want to put it down until the end What the heck It was so safe and non committal I m going to reread the first one again to get the annoying taste of this ones ending out of my mouth This was a great follow up to where we left in Underland Chanda does a great job fleshing out her characters, and even though we saw a lot of growth in Kira in the first book, Kira continues to surprise and show us new elements to who she is We also uncover secrets about Zeke and are introduced to a new character Allyn While I did wish there was a different ending, the story itself was exciting. I loved the first book Underland and could not wait for this book to be released The series reminds me of The Hunger Games meets Twilight, but I think the heroine, Kira, is a strong and intelligent leadsimilar to Catniss than Bella I do,however, wish there was a third book. I started reading Chanda Hahn s books in either fifth or sixth grade My older sister recommended I read a series she d read by her, called An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, and I was instantly hooked From there, I ended up reading Chanda Hahn s other works, because I enjoyed the stories and characters she came up with.Perhaps that s why I was so disappointed with Underlord, and why I ve been so hesitant to pick up her books since then.To get us up to date, here s a quick recap of book one, Underland I started reading Chanda Hahn s books in either fifth or sixth grade My older sister one, Underland Our protagonist, Kira Lier, is a girl living on the streets of Portland after her father died and her mother remarried an abusive man Shortly after her introduction she is kidnapped, and we find ourselves accompanying her to Underland, where the monsters of the world live They have not kidnapped humans in a long time, and her captors have broken the rules by bringing her here She is auctioned at a slave house, and is meant to be fed to Chanda Hahn s take on zombies, view spoiler but ultimately survives and ends up being entered in this story s version of the Hunger Games To everyone s surprise, she survives and wins, though in the end she is captured by the Underlords, Greek gods who have lost most of their power, and seems to wake up back on the streets above after learning that a prophecy foretells of her saving this world hide spoiler Along the way, we meet characters such as Zeke, our broody, zombie love interest with a tragic past Chaz, a dorky, shapeshifter werecheetah hybrid Alice, a sweet ghost view spoiler who ultimately dies again, but this time for good to save Kira s life hide spoiler and others.Except forget all of that stuff, because Hahn does And that is, for the most part, where all of my issues with this book stem from I really enjoyed Underland it was shaping up to be a very interesting premise and I thought it might become my favorite of Hahn s series Then I found out it was only going to be a duology series, and I already started getting the sense that this might not turn out as well as I was hoping That s largely due to my feeling that Hahn cannot write a conclusive story in only two books while I have nothing to say this for certain, I wouldn t be surprised if this series was never initially intended to be written in only two books. There were some blatant grammar and spelling errors, plenty of inconsistencies where you have to wonder why info wouldn t have come up sooner, info that blatantly contradicts itself in terms of how the Labrynth works, and a lack of any real tension The sudden shift to several perspectives whenever the first book only stuck with Kira s, as well as a seemingly pointless and confusing prologue, also contribute to my dislike, among other things I could continue to go on and on and talk further about the unsatisfactory ending or how Hahn chose a cop out to avoid having anything truly upsetting happen in the end Overall, it was a book that I was really looking forward to, but ultimately felt flat, almost as if Hahn s heart wasn t in it I can only hope that when I read her newest book, Lost Shadow, it proves to be a better, conclusive ending to that series.Do I recommend this book Sadly, no I would love to recommend just the first one, Underland, but the ending to that one is a cliffhanger, and I do not wish to subject anyone to feeling obligated to read this story If you re looking at Hahn s books, definitely pick up The Iron Butterfly, UnEnchanted, or Lost Girl instead. To read my full, spoiler review, check out my blog post here Underlord is Underwhelming This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here Anyone else really put off about this love triangle Like it felt very forced And then ending it with Kira not even deciding like how selfish LIKE GIRL TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED AND NOT EVEN WORRY ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS Its one thing to have romance in a book and then to shove a character who i actually loved and hated to jump in right at the last minute to fuck with a girls feelings It sucks because the first book had such strong connections and i was actually looking forward too seeing Zeke Anyone else really put off about this love triangle Like it felt very forced And then ending it with Kira not even deciding develop like don t get me wrong im not cutting out the other characters, the story wasn t just about Kira s undecided heart but also about the impending doom on Underland and its inhabitants it would have been a 5 book if the love triangle didn t bother me so much but other than that the book was enjoyable and it was soooo nice to finally be able to read the end of Kiras journey I didn t enjoy this one as much as the first book I have loved everything by the author so far unfortunate fairy tale series, lost girl, iron butterfly, and underland but Underlord was.underwhelming Not as exciting or well written It had its parts that were enjoyable and I loved seeing hearing the characters again It just lacked the wow factor of the other books that kept you wanting to read and not put it down
