is, this pretty little lady, has a problem where she thinks things and they come out of her mouth It s all right, because he checks her out too And yes, he s single And he has a little boy But he doesn t introduce her to his son right off the bat, he doesn t want to jump right in, and do the Hey I m a single Daddy thing thinking it may cause problems But his goal is to be the perfect Daddy, and set an example, and not upset his son The lust and love, and sex is mad and passionate and it is so wonderful, and sexy it is something that you would only dream of You even will see him thinking doesn t want to upset him, and he doesn t want to cause an upset in his Father son relationship. This book is so wonderful, so many feelings, so many emotions I was going through them all I truly enjoyed this book from cover to cover It was most excellent A love story worthy of reading, because it had a true need for family in it, and it made it work, and it wasn t just about the sex, but about making things work I enjoyed that it was put together so beautifully This book is a five star review, you will enjoy it I did, its a very interesting love story, and I m certain that many people need to seelike these I think this was an excellent piece of work, but then again, everything Dorothy writes is If Unworthy Heart is any indication to what we can expect in The Donnellys Series, then business man Ryan who is a single parent But Maiya is a pure example of a phoenix rising from the ashes and making something out of her life.Coming from a childhood full of absent parents, an event that filled her heart with so much guilt that it almost disabled her from moving on She was told for many years that she was unworthy of anything good, especially love Even with all the odds, she made her way through college and landed a great job in the business world She has her own car, apartment and clothing The life her mother provided for her when she was a child had no place in the world she created for herself.Ryan was dealing with his brothers and trying to raise his child as he worked with Maiya at the office Past relationships have left him broken and let down, but he isn t willing to give up on love yet Something about Maiya intrigued him, made his body ache for her and confused his mind How could he introduce this tattooed beauty to his child and family, but how could he resist his heart yearning for her either They came together with humorous banter quick comebacks and sex scenes that will make you blush Still even with all the confidence and love Ryan gives her, Maiya can t believe he would want to stay with her long time, invite her to be the mother to his little one Soon this is going to end and she is going to have to brace herself for that moment It always ends when the guy gets what he wants from her.I read Dorothy s first book and fell in love with her style and flair that is in every book so far She doesn t embellish her plots to make them sell, she uses the raw, gritty and dark reality of what really happens in life and makes her readers believe in miracles and love once again I adore Ryan, his patience for Maiya and constant acceptance and reassurance that he offered her were wonderful, yet he was still human with the quick triggers and pet peeves that would drive him crazy Maiya while confident in her job was so insecure in that private world she hides behind her walls The moment she let Ryan in and exposes the cause of her guilt was done with such taste and grace from the author it made me feel I was sitting along with them But appearances are not always what they seem and they find they havein common than they think But Ryan had a bad relationship in the past with a woman that Maiya reminds him of and he also has a son that he is raising alone to consider And Maiya had a bad childhood and has always kept away from real relationships, settling for bad boy types that she knows will not be a serious relationship Maiya and Ryan are very attracted to each though, so they begin a friends with benefits when they are in the same city situation This leads to them both developing feelings for each other, but they have to decide if it s worth taking a risk on love with each other.I liked Ryan and Maiya I was a little frustrated, because I did feel like they pushed each other away a lot at times, especially Maiya She had a rough past that caused her to I felt like the pushing away went on too long and wrapped up too close to the end of the book Ryan was not as forward and aggressive towards convincing Maiya to be in a relationship with him as I would have liked He was okay with waiting for Maiya to make up her mind and come to him I would have liked an epilogue too But there were some very sweet and sexy moments between the couple that I really enjoyed The story was interesting as well I really like Ms Shaw s writing and this book was no exception I will definitely readfrom her in the future 3.5 stars part of this book I like Maiya and Ryan well enough, it s just that I m a little frustrated with the push pull, yes no, in out nature of their connection I d say relationship, but they re so adamantly not having a relationship that I feel like it s not quite accurate to call it one The angst and uncertainty definitely ramp up the tension between them, but I couldn t wait for Shaw to dig deeper She slowly lays the foundation, introducing us to the greater cast of characters and revealing the reasons behind all the false starts Once the bigger picture comes into focus, things start clicking It s not all sex and denial, and as Maiya and Ryan begin to communicate, Shaw creates a nexus of emotions, intimacy, complexity and vulnerability that builds a bond They re getting in deep, and you can t help but go right along with them. So, I know what you re really wondering just how hot is this book On a scale of 1 to exploding ovaries, I d say it could very well incinerate your panties I credit that to the terrific chemistry Shaw writes between Maiya and Ryan It s off the charts, and despite their best attempts to stay away, when they finally give in, it s glorious They re everything you want and a whole lotyou were afraid to wish for One fascinating little surprise for me is how much Ryan lets loose in the bedroom, but don t take my word for it I hope you ll read it for yourself and come back to share your opinions.Part of that big picture I mentioned earlier is laying the foundation for a series This is book one of The Donnelly s series, and in Maiya and Ryan s story we learn there s a whole ton of them Donnelly s, that is I believe they re Irish, so if stereotypes prove true, it s no surprise the family is large In addition to being numerous, they also seem feisty and lively, so they re graced with the Irish temper as well I m really looking forward to what s to come for this clan and hoping we ll seeof Jimmy very soon This review can be found at 3 Chicks After Oh yeah, I m totally on the Dorothy Shaw fan train thanks to this story and the sexy Ryan Donnelly They say you don t really know what you need until you ve had it, tasted it, and felt it For Ryan and Sometimes the greatest leap of faith reaps the greatest reward and that is just what Ryan and Maiya have to figure out While this is my first novel by Dorothy Shaw, I had no issue enjoying the novel Her writing style is liquid, allowing the reader to easily drop into the story and intake it all Shaw pointedly shows shades of grey with Ryan and Maiya, making themthan one dimensional characters which I loved Ryan is a single father with a good heart He is dominant enough to be a wicked dirty talker who takes charge in the bedroom and comfortable enough in his own skin to be a complete goofball I loved Ryan, really freaking loved him Maiya is a bit edgier, tattooed, sassy, and sarcastic She has childhood hangups that still touch her today The two balance one another out and push each other The sex between them is explosive, the verbals spars are hilarious, and the chase is as good as the fall I m not a fan of blowing smoke up an author s rear end which could be part of the reason why I was gifted with this ARC in exchange for an honest review I genuinely enjoyed the story and had a hard time putting it down to return to my job The stars fall at a solid 5 out of 5 due to the easy way the story takes shape, the growth of the characters as individuals and together as a couple, and for the deliciously sinful sex I look forward to reading the next book in the series, hoping for Jimmy s story because I love him and his tattooed self I signed up to review Unworthy Heart a while back, but when the opportunity to review its sequel came up I moved the book forward on my reading schedule so I could get a feel for the author s writing style to see if I wanted to continue the series It wasn t until I was well past half way through the book before I decided that I did want to review the next installment This is not because I didn t enjoy the author s writing style because I did Rather I wasn t sure where exactly the story was go I signed up to review Unworthy Heart a while back, but when the opportunity to review its sequel came up I moved the book forward on my reading schedule so I could get a feel for the author s writing style to see if I wanted to continue the series It wasn t until I was well past half way through the book before I decided that I did want to review the next installment This is not because I didn t enjoy the author s writing style because I did Rather I wasn t sure where exactly the story was going to end up Shaw created such realistic characters in Maiya and Ryan that I didn t know if they would ever overcome their baggage and they have a LOT of baggage Even better, the author takes the time to build the relationship between them despite their seemingly quick fall into bed.Due to a family issue, Maiya works remotely Las Vegas and has been collaborating with Ryan Los Angeles on work projects for a few months During the course of their working together, they have developed a professional friendship that has evolved to include quite a bit of flirting So it was no surprise when the sparks flew between them upon their first face to face meeting, despite both being the exact opposite of their usual type Even when they give into the physical attraction between them, they each maintain an emotional distance because neither believes there can be anything long term between them, but for entirely different reasons And the sex Oh my god is the sex HOT Ryan proves to have quite the unexpected dominant streak in the bedroom and despite her initial appalment at responding to it, Maiya comes to appreciate and enjoy the extra bite he provides as did I But great chemistry in and out of bed does not necessarily make for a successful relationship This is a couple that has to decide whether or not a future together is worth fighting for, even when one is having to fight the other s past.My take on Maiya is that she seems to consider herself to be littlethan educated trailer trash who has no right to happiness She is the unworthy heart of the book, in her opinion at least This is largely due to a neglectful alcoholic mother who laid her own guilt regarding her son s death at Maiya s feet Yep, that pretty much insures a girl is going to have one heck of an inferiority complex no matter how educated or successful she becomes Maiya suffers from a terrible case of being left alone with her thoughts and letting them undermine her Normally I would find the level of angst that Maiya s insecurities cause to be off putting but Shaw wrote her character in such a way that I empathized with Maiya, especially when she discovered how close she resembled Ryan s baggage As for Ryan, I completely understood his desire to keep his single fatherhood a secret at work and him not wanting to introduce Maiya to his son until he knew what their relationship was As for his son CUTE I suspect that being a single father and having NINE siblings is what gave Ryan the patience to keep knocking down Maiya s walls And that his brother Jimmy was tatted and pierced made his family s easy acceptance of Maiya s appearance so believable And I commend the cover designer on this one because it was a great representation of Maiya Part of why I want to continue reading The Donnellys series is because Defensive Heart is Jimmy s book and I have to know his story The other reason being that Shaw made me laugh and cry as Maiya and Ryan and Jacob made their way to a happy ending I can only hope that Defensive Heart will give me a chance to catch up with the trio while finding out Jimmy s story.I received a
